Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate, Caramel, Baking Spices
Origin: Mpumbi Village, Kalehe Territory, South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo
We have a soft spot for coffees from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and every year we cup them, the quality seems to improve. This organic and Fair Trade cup is no exception. We find that a medium-light roast level brings out all that we love: notes of dark, dark rich chocolate, the caramelly sweetness of medjool dates, and baking spices to round out a well-balanced sip.
Founded in 2003, the SOPACDI coffee cooperative provides processing and market access to the growers in these extremely remote highlands who previously had no way to bring their coffee to market. The cooperative was the first in the country to achieve Fair Trade certification, and the coffee is also certified organic. This particular microstation in Mpumbi serves 60 producers representing several different ethnic groups.
Note: We roast on Mondays and ship the following day. Order before midnight on Sunday to have your beans included in the next day's roast.
