Peaberry coffee is one of Tanzania's specialties. Normally, each coffee cherry develops two seeds (coffee beans), but thanks to a natural mutation, some cherries grow with only one rounder, single seed inside. These are called peaberries, and some people think that these dense little coffee beans (which must be sorted by hand, by the way) are sweeter and and more flavorful than the usual double seeds. You'll have to try this one out to see if you agree.
We haven't brought in much Tanzanian coffee, but this year we were pleased to find a cup that is clean, well-balanced, and sugary. It has lovely bright acidity, a sweet finish, and enough fruit to make us smile. Enjoy!
